The international students of the university travelled to Bugacpuszta on the 26th May to get to know the traditions of the Hungarian stock-breeding lifestyle.

The second part of the name of „Bugacpuszta”, the „puszta” refers to the Hungarian plain, as Bugacpuszta is located in the western part of the Great Hungarian plain to the South of Kecskemét.

For many centuries the Great Hungarian Plain provided space for the nomadic stock-farming, which means that the Hungarian horse herdsmen, cattle herdsmen and shepherds lived outside, „under the free sky of God” together with their animals throughout the whole year, in every season.  

 

Within the program the international students took part in the playful Puszta Pentathlon, and in the frames of that competition they could test their skills in the use of the traditional short-stocked long whip („karikás ostor”) of the herdsmen and other games, such as

  • carting the classmates away in a wheelbarrow
  • corn-shelling
  • the use of the calabash
  • pulling the donkey.

 

Then they went for a carting ride, visited the Herdsmen Museum, saw the traditional Hungarian domestic animal breeds and watched the horse-show, which included the presentation of the

  • procession of horse herders;
  • the show of the famous Puszta Five;
  • skill show by the horsemen: Horse laying and sitting, puszta armchair, test of strengths, sitting down at the table, cracking the whip, the mother-in-law beating and competitions of horsemen;
  • show by the donkey called Anti;
  • Bugac stud galloping

The participants of the excursion had lunch in a traditional Hungarian Restaurant, „Karikás csárda”, during which they tasted the Hungarian Goulash, as well.

Communication and Media Science BA

 

The Communication and Media Science BA study program, run by the Institute for Social Sciences at the University of Dunaújváros, welcomes students interested in the world of the media with a specialization in Media Informatics, and an eventful student life in a rich intercultural environment.

During their university studies we provide our students with a practice-oriented training program which is based on a thorough theoretical foundation. Therefore, students are given the opportunity to apply the various theoretical methods in real-life situations, such as producing TV programs from the very first semester.

We welcome our future students with a 200-m2 studio and equipment required for professional TV production, such as full HD multi-camera recording and post-production activities. Students are involved in various tasks of TV editing as part of their studies. During their internship they can improve their technical competence in a real professional environment (TV stations), work for our communication partners and we also publish their workpieces, their films.

Besides the studio and several sports facilities, student research centres provide regular opportunities for students to spend their free time actively. They organise professional lectures, trainings and field trips, which not only extend students’ education and lay the foundation of their professional experience, but also offer opportunities for enhancing friendships over continents.

Our engineering courses were among the first ones to be started at the University of Dunaújváros. A wide network of industrial connections, professors with extensive experience both in research, practice and teaching and an up-to-date infrastructure gives an excellent basis for engineering education. As a result of the last 10 years’ investments our laboratories are equipped with world-class measuring devices and other facilities that students can become acquainted with and use during their practical classes.

 

Why Material Engineering?

 

Material engineers develop, process, and test materials used to create a range of products, from computer chips and aircraft wings to golf clubs and biomedical devices. They study the properties and structures of metals, ceramics, plastics, composites, and other substances to create new materials that meet the certain mechanical, electrical, and chemical requirements. They also help to select materials for specific products, develop new ways to use existing materials, and develop new materials. That explains why the field of materials is likely to be one of the key areas in the next technological revolutions, and is a growth engine for the global economy, with important effects on quality of life, health, safety, and environment.

 

The Material Engineering BSc course at UOD offers specialisation in Material Technology. Reflecting to the demands of the industrial sector students will acquire up-to-date knowledge of metal, ceramic and polymer technology.

 

Our students also have the possibility to join our industrial research activities in the metallographic, and optical and scanning electron microscope laboratory.

 

During the implementation of a wide-range of material technologies a graduated material engineer will be able to do the quality control of the production work phases and tasks, to define and specify several characteristics of industrial products being familiar with many destructive and non-destructive material testing methods. He/ she becomes capable of the estimation and rationalisation of the energy consumption needed for the material production and of solving related labour safety tasks, too.

 

 

 

This qualification provides the students with excellent employment opportunities. Material engineers will be needed to design uses for new materials both in traditional industries, such as car or aerospace manufacturing, and in industries focusing on new medical or scientific products.

Computer Science Engineering BSc

 

Choosing the Computer Science Engineering study program is always a good idea if you would like to be successful in your career. Based on the forecast of the European Committee until the year of 2020, there will be around 825.000 job vacancies in the IT sector  in Europe. In Hungary currently there are already around 22.000 computer engineers missing from the labour market, so consequently it is not surprising that the companies compete with each other for the talented fresh graduates with this type of degree. Besides the high salary most of them offer living and catering opportunities for free or for very favorable price. Nowadays the workplace of most computer engineers is not localized to a certain office, neither to cities or countries, companies are looking for employees based on the knowledge they gained during their education period all over the world.

 

In the University of Dunaújváros applicants are able to study the Computer Science Engineering BSc study program in English language.

Besides the major aspects of the study area, the students acquire the following skills:

 

  • improvement of general, mobile and industrial software in the specialization “Software Technology”
  • management of informatics networks the specialization “System and Network Engineering”
  • usage of software related to picture and sound processing in the faculty of Media Informatics

Most of the IT companies require special knowledge from the fresh-graduates of this field. The University of Dunaújváros has several partner companies whose representatives teach the students exclusive and actual topics which they might find useful. In these so called co-operative trainings, the students have to complete different tasks related to bank information technology, programming, networking, operating system administrative, etc. tasks. During the lessons they acquire the knowledge required to be a professional in the field of informatics. Moreover, during their studies undergraduates are welcome to participate in a practical internship offered by companies. The bests among them often get a job offer already before their graduation.

 

From the 4th semester the opportunity is given to students of the program Computer Science Engineering BSc to participate at project works related to their professional area.

Did you know that which country has been called as the „Land of Fire” for centuries? Were you aware of that a kind of oil coming from the ground can be not just fossil fuel but a healing material? Have you ever wanted to know more about the natural beauties, the architectural uniqueness and the egzotic cuisine of Azerbaijan? On the 26th April, in the frames of the usual monthly gathering of the International Club of our university the participants had the opportunity to get to know the colourful country of Azerbaijan, which was the subject of the presentation of Rufat Aghayev, an Erasmus+ KA107 part-time student of our university from the city of Ganja, Azerbaijan.

 

 

Sanaa El Alaoui, a Stipendium Hungaricum student from Morocco did the second presentation, in which the participants could see a film (directed by Sanaa’s father), that introduced the habits, the culture and the way of thinking of the nomadic desert-dwellers of Morocco, and let us have an inside view of  the social and family relationships of people living in a harsh natural environment.

 

 

 

The International Club DUE is a forum where Hungarian and Foreign university students and local high school students can meet each other and exchange information and ideas about their countries and cultures. Club meetings are held on the last Wednesday in each month from 5 pm. This was the last reunion of the International Club before the end of this academic year. Everybody who is open to meet and communicate young people coming from different cultures is kindly welcome to participate in the programs of the Club after the summer vacation time the last week of September.

Why is it attractive to be an Engineering Manager? – He/she acts as a bridge between engineering and economic professionals

Due to the combination of business and management knowledge with technical expertise, engineering managers are designed to play a key role in the next generation of managers in the engineering sector. Engineering management (and Technical management) is a specialized field of management concerned with the engineering sector. During our engineering (technical) management courses, students will develop industrial engineering skills, knowledge and expertise, alongside knowledge of business and management techniques, strategies and concerns. Our study is typically taught through a combination of lectures, case studies, hands-on workshops, laboratory-based practical classes, engineering design activities (we teach CAD and SOLIDWORKS in our labs), group and individual project work and consultation sessions. Our student-oriented focus means that we use our experience in international study programmes and give all support to our students to pass their courses and receive their diploma.

We offer Logistic Specialisation while we see as the global economy has expanded, logistics has become increasingly important. Estimates provided by the U.S. Department of Labour show that logistics jobs will increase in number by 25.5 percent from 2010 to 2020. Careers in logistics can begin anywhere while nearly every company and organization has a need for logistics managers. Logistics careers have traditionally been held by men, but women are becoming increasingly involved at all levels. Many women hold top positions in logistics companies and logistics departments. Logistics is also a stepping stone into the field of international business.
