As in previous years, the opening ceremony of the academic year of the University of Dunaújváros took place on the second day of the Freshman Camp on 30 August 2024.
János Süli, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the University of Dunaújváros (UOD) and Dr. István András, Rector of the University of Dunaújváros welcomed the first-year students on behalf of the University at the opening ceremony of the academic year.

The choir of the Móricz Zsigmond Primary School of Dunaújváros, conducted by Mrs. Anna Sarok- Varga, was present at the festive programme.
The high-quality performance was followed by a welcome speech by Dr. István András, Rector of the University of Dunaújváros
In his speech, the Rector emphasised that the university is starting the new academic year with an outstanding number of students. More than 1200 students have been admitted to our institution during the admission procedure, so that including the students starting in September, there are already nearly 3500 students studying at our university.
The Rector pointed out that the general admission procedure has seen a marked increase in the number of points compared to last year.
After the Rector's welcome, the first-year students took their vows.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, János Süli, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the University of Dunaújváros, welcomed the students.
He highlighted that in the coming years, UOD will give its students all the help they need to successfully complete their studies. In his speech, he stressed that the cooperation between the University and the Foundation for the University of Dunaújváros is extremely fruitful and harmonious: the Bánki Donát Technical School of the University of Dunaújváros has achieved excellent results in parallel with the University in terms of enrolment, and UOD is admitting more and more highly qualified students every year.
In conclusion, he highlighted that Dr. István András István, Rector, and Dr. Mónika Rajcsányi-Molnár, Vice Rector of Institutional Developments, as well as Dr. Zsolt Barna, Chairman and CEO of MBH Bank Ltd. and member of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the University of Dunaújváros, have received significant recognition from the University's leadership.
"The Rector of our University is the Vice President of the Hungarian Rectors' Conference from 1 July 2024. Deputy Rector Mrs. Zsolt Barna was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit, while Dr. Zsolt Barna was awarded the Order of Merit of Hungary, Civil Cross. Congratulations to all three of them."
After the welcome speech of the President of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for the University of Dunaújváros, Dr. Lajos Mészáros, Member of Parliament, also had a few kind words for the audience. "The University of Dunaújváros is an inspiring environment, which can provide an incomparable community for the development and cultivation of good human and professional relations." - emphasized in his speech.
Last, but not least Zsolt Szabó, Deputy Mayor of Dunaújváros, responsible for coordination and urban development, welcomed the first-year students. He said that many of the new students had a new home in the city, which welcomed them warmly. He encouraged those present to learn about the traditions of Selmec, to make the most of their student life and every opportunity to study during their university years.
