Dr. István András, Rector of the University of Dunaújváros, was asked to evaluate the last year of the city's higher education institution.

In his assessment, the Rector said that three main elements determined the past year of the University of Dunaújváros. One of them was the highly successful recruitment campaign, the other was the obligatory five-year evaluation to be submitted to the Hungarian Higher Education Accreditation Committee (MAB), and the third was the issue of active participation in the Paks II project nuclear power plant training.

Dr. István András said they had to prepare a lot for accreditation, as it determines how the university progresses in the future. The other was the development of industrial relations, focusing on Paks II. The last year of the university was determined by these tasks, which the Rector said was a very exciting job. Speaking about accreditation, he told it always starts with self-examination, a self-assessment should be done. This is an approx. seventy-page material based on numbers: what has happened on campus since the previous MAB visit. As he said, "it was beneficial to happen," because the university has followed its development plan from 2016 to this year which was the basis of the applications submitted, and the improvements had done. However, the plan ends this year, so they have to determine in what direction they imagine the future of the University of Dunaújváros. In connection with this, he said, a plan has been drawn up, in the vision of an industrial service university. This means that the university will be even more company-focused and will put more emphasize on the developments of Paks.

Admissions

It was quite important for the University's future vision of what results the enrollment period in 2019 would produce. The Rector emphasized that they had an exceptionally good enrollment rate since the local university was performed twenty percent increase while the national average was only four. Vocational schooling was also successful, as there was double over-application for their energy engineering advanced training, where they had to filter the best applicants via oral and written entrance exams.

The work you started earlier is well worth it

The Rector said, the results of the work begun in 2018 with the establishment of the Paks Center of Excellence and Research seems to show themselves. This marked the beginning of a conscious development at the university, which, in addition to its scientific work, has resulted the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation by the International Organization of Rosatom, the Rusatom International Network and the University of Dunaújváros. The rector pointed out that the sign of conscious development and construction in this case is also evident, as Rusatom asked the university to provide a booth for the company at their next job fairs. The next step in the development was that half billion forints the university recieved in last December to be used to develop destructive and non-destructive labs and to upgrade welding labs to the most professional level and to fund professional preparations.

Foundations for the future

In order to realize the vision of the industrial service university and to continue the planned construction an organizational unit the industrial development center was established within the university. This as the rector said is intended to serve as an even closer cooperation with industrial companies. But, as he said, the job of recruiting foreign students is no less important in which the institution has been working well for a long time, every year there are two hundred foreign students, half of whom are scholarship holders and half of them are self-financed students.

In the spirit of the above, they intend to continue the work already done this year, summarized dr. István András, emphasizing that besides these, they would like to carry on with all their educational and cultural programs that are organically connected with the life of the university and which they make a point to do.
