Learning about a new country goes far beyond the classroom. For international students, experiencing local culture, discovering historical places and taking part in shared activities are all important parts of studying abroad. With this in mind, students of the University of Dunaújváros embarked on a cultural excursion to Kecskemét, where a day full of discoveries, new experiences and memorable moments awaited them.

The day began with a visit to Kecskemét City Hall, one of Hungary's most remarkable examples of Art Nouveau architecture. Designed by renowned Hungarian architects Ödön Lechner and Gyula Pártos, the building is famous for its impressive façade, colourful decorative elements and magnificent Ceremonial Hall. During the visit, students had the opportunity to learn more about the city's history and admire the architectural and artistic heritage of the building.

The programme continued with a visit to the Leskowsky Musical Instrument Collection, offering a truly unique cultural experience. The collection features more than 2,000 musical instruments from five continents, representing different musical traditions, cultures and historical periods. Through an engaging guided presentation, students discovered instruments from around the world and gained insight into how music connects people across cultural boundaries. The interactive nature of the collection made this stop particularly memorable.

Students also had time to explore the city centre, enjoy some free time and discover Kecskemét at their own pace. This provided another opportunity to experience everyday life in a Hungarian town, enjoy its atmosphere and spend time together outside the university environment.

The final stop of the excursion was the Szórakaténusz Toy Museum and Workshop, home to an extraordinary collection of nearly 18,000 objects related to the history and culture of toys. From traditional Hungarian folk toys to playthings from different parts of the world, the exhibition offered a fascinating look at childhood, traditions and cultural heritage across generations. It was a particularly enjoyable way to round off the day's cultural programme.

Beyond the sights and exhibitions, the excursion was also about bringing people together. Spending a day outside the university allowed students to connect with one another, share experiences, discover something new and create memories in a relaxed and welcoming environment. The enthusiastic feedback from participants showed just how much they appreciated the opportunity.

At the University of Dunaújváros, we believe that international education is about more than academic knowledge. Cultural programmes and excursions help students develop a deeper understanding of their host country, broaden their perspectives, build friendships and feel more connected to the community around them.

Because studying abroad is not just about where you study - it is also about everything you discover along the way.
