HackAtom Hungary is an international nuclear-themed hackathon where student teams develop innovative technological solutions to current challenges in nuclear energy and power generation.

Objective of the Competition

Innovations and new technologies play a key role in the development of the energy sector and environmental protection. This is especially true in the field of nuclear technology, where improving safety and efficiency is of paramount importance.

The objectives of HackAtom Hungary are:

  • to demonstrate the connection between nuclear energy and modern technologies
  • to raise students’ interest in careers in the energy sector
  • to develop innovative thinking and teamwork skills

 

Nature of the Competition

HackAtom is a team competition where:

  • participants develop solutions to a specific problem defined by the organizers
  • both the technological idea and its presentation are important
  • teamwork plays a key role alongside individual knowledge

 

Team Composition

  • 5 members per team
  • recommended roles:
    • team leader
    • engineer(s)
    • IT specialist(s)
    • spokesperson(s)

Multiple teams from the same institution are allowed. Each team is supported by a university lecturer.

Date: 14–15 May 2026

Venue: University of Dunaújváros

 

Provisional Programme

Day 1:

  • online lectures by professors from Russian universities on nuclear-related topics
  • presentation of the competition task
  • teamwork and solution development (participants are required to bring their own laptops for the team work)

Day 2:

  • team presentations
  • jury evaluation
  • announcement of results

 

Awards

The winning team and their supervising lecturer will receive an invitation to an international event held in September, at MEPhI University in Moscow
